I’m always excited to work with new talent and to work on projects that aren’t necessarily penned by myself. I was hired to be an acting coach on a cool experimental short film trilogy project named Black Rose. I was present at the first rehearsal with the team and the actors to get the actors going a couple of weeks ago and I almost immediately fell in love with the actors as themselves as well as them in their characters. There’s nothing more satisfying to me than working with an actor and seeing them realize “a ha!” moments and seeing the wheels turn inside their heads. One of the actors is from a soap opera background and if you know anything about the differences in acting for both – it can be a challenging transition into film. Working with this man was great because we all can’t be great overnight but to see him really grasp the notes he was given and to witness his adjustments made me feel right at home with this new and wonderfully talented group. Their energy was vibrant and open and I was saddened that the rehearsal ended when it did. I took their spirits with me into the rest of my day and was wished that I could have these types of experiences every day.
There’s something about the creative purists that I keep pushing for. The creatives who could care less about being famous and all the hoopla – but are just concerned about the work. Like myself, they do it because they need it and find life hard to live without it. The ones who doubt themselves and their talent but still keep pushing. I manage to keep pushing for the dreamers and even the naysayers. But most of all I do it for my soul.
